Sales recruitment agency
What should you look for when selecting a sales recruitment agency?
At first glance, recruiting and selecting sales managers, account managers, and business development managers seems fairly straightforward.
And with that comes the assumption that every sales recruitment agency does more or less the same thing.
How hard can it be?
For many companies, the decision to engage a sales recruitment agency is primarily driven by the fact that they lack the internal resources to recruit the right sales professionals.
“In-house recruiters are primarily used to recruit developers and engineers.”
The reality, however, is that the quality of agencies can vary greatly, and as far as we’re concerned, this can be traced back to how they view sales talent.
Generally speaking, these are the key criteria for selecting a sales recruitment agency.
1 – Sales DNA
Qualities such as drive, ambition, motivation, and passion in a sales professional provide a better indication of future performance than a resume.
The reason is obvious, but the question is: what methodological approach does a sales recruitment agency use to attract the best candidates (and to make intrinsic motivators measurable)?
For example, do organizations use OMG, Salesstep, or another method to provide insight into expected performance in the face of adversity, in addition to the resume?
2 – Culture
Recruitment and selection are easier when there is some sort of shared DNA with the client.
Ultimately, the recruiter must be able to promote the organization with enthusiasm.
And that's only possible if the recruiter truly believes in the organization for which he or she is recruiting.
Recruiting sales professionals in Rotterdam, Amsterdam, or Eindhoven…it shouldn’t really matter, should it?
The reality is different.
For many employers, knowledge of the local “culture” can be that little extra something.
And what applies to the employer also applies to the candidates.
A recruiter who is familiar with the local market can make all the difference in some situations.

3 – Experience
One of the major annoyances for prospective sellers who are approached is the recruiter’s lack of knowledge and expertise.
A salesperson can sense bullshit from a mile away and prefers to deal directly with someone on an equal footing.
As far as we’re concerned, it’s impossible to have a junior recruiter handle the recruitment and selection process for senior sales positions.
In addition, the client benefits from a sales recruitment agency that isn’t afraid to challenge the requirements.
And, of course, this is only possible if the recruitment and selection agency has some comparable experience.
4 – Approach
Ultimately, the recruitment and selection process cannot be viewed in isolation from employer branding.
The client must therefore understand how candidates are approached and be able to assess whether this aligns with the client’s own working methods.
Employer branding is therefore becoming increasingly important.
5 – Network
On average, sales positions remain open for 6 months.
The value of the recruitment and selection agency is therefore greater the more directly its existing network can be accessed.
Highly specialized expertise in a specific industry or type of salesperson will certainly speed up the process and improve quality.
6 – Risk
Traditionally, the recruitment and selection market has been a performance-based market.
"No cure, no pay" is still the preferred option for many clients.
However, there are also a number of risks associated with this form of recruitment.
As a result, both parties are less committed, and there is a good chance that a strong candidate will not be offered exclusively to a single client.
An exclusive way of working could therefore offer a major advantage to both organizations, but the decision ultimately comes down to weighing the risks.
The match between the client and the sales recruitment agency is just as important as the match between the employer and potential candidates.

Expertise: With our sales experience in the IT industry, we understand the nuances.
This enables us to provide insights that help our clients create more accurate profiles of their ideal candidates.
This also allows us to present alternative options in collaboration with our clients. Think, for example, of candidates who are completely overlooked because they aren’t the obvious choices.
Result: We are flexible in how we can work together to ensure a successful project. This goes beyond the traditional debate over “no-cure, no-pay” versus exclusivity.
After all, we are only truly successful when a candidate is willing to commit to an organization for the long term and is able to perform consistently.
To make this possible, we can also offer sales training for a specific period to ensure a smooth onboarding process.

"Our people make the difference." Really? As a former "digital workplace & IT entrepreneur," I've said this for years about my 25 colleagues. But the reality is we were only considered thought leaders by 5% of our target audience. Even today, this remains a common statement from MSPs and IT service providers. But these words lose their meaning if your expertise does not extend beyond your existing customers and a handful of prospects. I now help IT entrepreneurs with thought leadership in their niche.
